Club remains closed - Update on 22.5.20

Dear EFC Fencers,

We hope this update finds you well, and that you are looking forward to the slight easing of non-contact outdoor restrictions with the move to Phase 1 from 28th May, as announced by the Scottish Government on the 21st May.

Although we still have no firm date of when the club may be able to reopen, there was some encouraging news with the Scottish Government's publication of Scotland's Route Map, indicating that Phase 3 may allow for some socially distanced indoor sport to resume. As Phase 3 also includes the reopening of schools, it is not expected that EFC will be able to resume training before mid August.

When the club does reopen, it is very likely that some level of restriction will still be in place and greater attention will need to be given to personal safety and hygiene. So, as mentioned in our Covid-19 Update in March, the committee has already taken the decision that all fencers must now own at least basic kit; with an expectation that this will extend to full kit in due course. We would therefore urge all members to consider acquiring any personal kit they may be lacking, in time for when the club is able to reopen.

As a minimum we are asking that in the first instance all fencers should own a well fitting Glove, Breeches and Mask. The club continues to have a good relationship with Allstar Uhlmann Scotland, and Martin Buckley our club Armourer and Allstar Uhlmann Scotland Representative is happy to offer EFC members a 10% discount and free delivery on kit purchases. Please email Martin directly for full details, or to place an order.

There are also several other UK based suppliers, and it is advisable to check website clearance sales. There is a strong second hand market online and many bargains to be found, but please ensure minimum safety standards are met before agreeing a purchase.

We hope you are managing to keep up with the various online fencing tutorials which are on offer, and would point out that British Fencing are working on adding a Virtual Club Session Calendar to their website.

Stay healthy, stay safe and we hope to be able to resume club sessions in the not too distant future.
