Edinburgh Fencing Club

Open Training Sessions

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 19:00–21:45
Ages: 10+

These open sessions are for anyone who already knows how to fence. Footwork is at 19:15 at both sessions, followed by free fencing on the box. We have fencers in all three weapons: foil, épée and sabre.

You can also take a private lesson from one of our coaches during the open training sessions.

If you take one of our classes and would like to come along to the open training sessions, just ask your coach if you are ready.

Equipment

The club has a limited amount of fencing kit available for fencers to borrow at no extra costs.
You will need to wear a t-shirt, tracksuit trousers and indoor trainers or fencing shoes. No shorts or muddy shoes!
If you are fencing on the electric box, you need to wear certified 350 newton tracksuit trousers or fencing breeches.

Junior Fencing Classes

Junior Foil and Sabre Class
Wednesdays, 18:00–19:30
Ages: 17 and under

Wednesday night is Juniors' night. Don McKenzie and Andy Alderman run a foil and sabre class for anyone under the age of 17. After a joined warm-up and footwork session, the class splits in foilists and sabreurs for the weapon specific fencing training.

Parents are welcome to come along with their furture fencers to meet the coaching team and talk about how the sessions work. For new fencers we recommend starting with a Beginners Course (see below) before joining the class as a club member.

Junior Sabre Class
Thursday, 19:00–20:30
Ages: 10-16

This fun and action-packed class is for beginners and intermediate sabreurs alike. Working with Naomi Farmer, you play some games to warm-up, learn how to chase down your opponent (and run away!) during the footwork session, practice how to score points in the blade skills and tactics session, and finally put your new skills to use as you challenge your classmates to fence.
