Barcelona FIE Satellite, 26th October

Four EFC girls represented their country; Ines Kirsten (AUT) and Chloe Dickson, Katie Smith and Zoe Sudderick (GBR) in this strong FIE Satellite foil event with competitors from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, The United States and Venezuela!

Competition Results - First Leg of Youth Development Series, Stirling

Seven young EFC fencers competed in this season’s first Youth Development Series event on 27th October in Stirling.
Our youngest participant, Aleks Reznik, U11 foil, did well in his first metal foil competition. With 3 victories and 4 defeats in the poule, he was seeded 5th for the direct eliminations. In the following DEs all places were fenced for, and Aleks finished 6th overall.

Amirah representing Malaysia in the Asian U23 Championships

Amirah Sofea represented Malaysia in the Asian U23 Championships. She first fought on 24th October in the individual women’s foil competition. With a victory in her pool and two 4-5 defeats she was unlucky to get cut from the pools by one hit to finish 34th.
Three days later Amirah also competed in the WF Team event in Bangkok. Seeded 6th after the Individual, Malaysia drew Chinese Taipei in the quarter finals. Defeat to the eventual silver medallists resulted in a final position of 6th for the girls.

Our EFC foilist Amirah Sofea has been in Tokyo, training with the Malaysian Team. She will spend the coming weeks with her Malaysian team mates to prepare for the upcoming SouthEast Asian Games in November. She is working hard, but is also having a fabulous time.

Competition Results - Katie Smith competing in Antalya

Katie Smith was one of four GB fencers competing in the Antalya FIE Satellite International tournament in Turkey on the 19th October.

With 3v 3d in her pool, Katie went into the L32 seeded 14, where she eliminated Degerman (FIN) 15-3. In the L16 Katie was eliminated 4-15 by an 'on-form' Karamete (TUR) who went on to win the competition, Katie retaining her seeding to finish 14th.

Competition Results – Epee, 5th and 6th October 2019

Our EFC epeeists had a busy weekend away:

Most fencers competed in the London International Open. At the 83rd Miller-Hallett Cup for the Men’s Epee on Saturday, 5th October, Calum Johnston came 5th and Davide Fontana 7th. Also competing in the field of over 92 epeeists were Isaac McKerr (coming 21st), Alexander Papadopoulos (40th), Dylan Morrison (46th), and Robbie Brown (88th).

Competition Results – Trekanten International in Copenhagen, 5th and 6th October

A nine-strong EFC squad made their way to Copenhagen for a weekend of Foil events from U12s to a very strong FIE Satellite for the seniors.

Day 1: On the Saturday Hannah Fielding and Sahsa Htet-Marshall took part in the Junior WF (U20), both gaining promotion from the pools and getting through the L64 but were eliminated in the L32 to finish 11th and 14th respectively.

Competition Results – Manchester Cadet International Tournament, 28th September 2019

Ellen Buckley, Emma Hu and Hannah Fielding represented EFC in this strong International event that featured 107 international fencers.
All of the girls survived the vicious 20% cut to go into the L128 where Emma lost 14-15 to a Tang (MAS) to finish 72nd and Hannah lost to Moberg (SWE) 9-15 to finish 83rd.
Ellen was victorious in her L128 bout against fellow Brit Meurisse 15-10, but lost her L64 bout against Pelletier (FRA) 7-15 to finish 49th.
