Matt D'Agostino is leaving the club to move to London


Matt D'AgostinoAfter four years of coaching and ten years of training at EFC, Matt D'Agostino is leaving the club to move to London. During his time at EFC he competed in numerous internationals for Scotland and Britain, and won the UK School Games. As a coach, Matt delivered the Wednesday night youth Sabre class and worked hard to create new links to feeder clubs.

Edinburgh University Girls win British Universities' Title

Congratulations to the Edinburgh University Girls' Team who on Wednesday 26th March won the British Universities' Championships by defeating Cambridge.

This was the culmination of the season's knock out matches that saw the girls undefeated against teams from the universities of Durham, Aberdeen, York, Birmingham, Oxford and Surrey.

The Team victory follows individual British Universities' success with Lisa and Catriona coming 1st and 2nd in the Women's Foil only weeks before.

Congratulations to Andrew Winters!

Big congrats to Andrew on his L8 in the 2014 Liverpool Open Epee.

East of Scotland Qualifying competitions for the British Youth Championships

These events are to provide qualifiers for the annual British Youth Championships, this year on the 3rd to the 5th May at the EIS in Sheffield.

The entry to this event covers your entry to the National Championship should you qualify (and as there are a minimum of 4 qualifiers, most who enter usually qualify).

Please note, the events are being held on weekday evenings (Thursday 13th March and Tuesday 18th March) and the closing date is Friday 7th March.

Coach Professor Andy Alderman joins EFC

Coach Professor Andy AldermanAndy is fully qualified Coach at all weapons and will be at club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Andy is the current Epee Coach for the Scottish Fencing Academy and one of the coaches (along with Ben and Don) selected by Scottish Fencing to accompany the Scottish Team at this year's Commonwealth Championships.

Anyone interested in taking lessons from Andy (by personal arrangement) should approach Andy at club

Busy Weekend for EFC Women's Foilists!

The weekend at the start of February saw our women's foilists scattered around Europe!

Catriona Sibert represented Great Britain at the senior World Cup in Gdansk (Poland) as a result of Catriona's current GB ranking (she's GB No.4). Catriona has also been selected to fence for Britain at forthcoming World Cup events in Budapest (Hungary) and St. Petersburg (Russia).

EFC girls qualify for European Juniors

Congratulations to Chloe Dickson and Katie Smith who have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2014 European Junior Championships!

Britain will be taking a full team of four fencers and half of the team are from EFC! Congratulations too to Yvonne Chart, from Truro who has fenced at EFC as our guest before and represented us at the British Team Championships.

This year's Championships will be from 28th February to 4th March in Jerusalem.

EFC Medalists at the 2014 Scottish Open Championships

EFC continued it's domination of Women's Foil in Scotland coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Scottish Open Championships. This is the second year running that we have managed this, the third year running that the final has been an all EFC affair and the 6th year running that an EFC fencer has won this event!
